JOSH GROBAN RETURNS TO THIRTEEN/WNET NEW YORK'S GREAT PERFORMANCES ON PBS

Vocal Sensation Offers Highlights From Latest Multi-Platinum Album

"What most people know about me, they know through my music. This time, I've tried to open that door as wide as possible. These songs are a giant step closer to who I really am and what my music is all about." So says vocal phenomenon Josh Groban about his latest album, Closer, and the television special it has inspired.

Premiering Thursday, December 2 at 9:30 p.m. (ET) on Thirteen/WNET New York's GREAT PERFORMANCES on PBS (check local listings), the special, Josh Groban Live at The Greek, recorded in performance over the course of two sold-out evenings at Los Angeles' famed Greek Theatre, offers the 23-year-old headliner at the top of his form. This is particularly evident in his stunning, gospel-choir-backed rendition of "You Raise Me Up" and two Groban-penned originals, "Per Te" and his current hit single "Remember When It Rained."

"Mr. Groban is a romantic balladeer who means it. He conveys the poignancy of a lonely innocent blessed with talent but isolated by it, dreaming out loud," commented The New York Times earlier this year.

Additional highlights of the new special are "Mi Mancherai," performed with young violin prodigy Lucia Micarelli, a solo Josh at the piano with Paul Simon's "America" and an energized solo debut of Josh on drums. The evening marks Groban's latest appearance on GREAT PERFORMANCES since last year's The Los Angeles Philharmonic Inaugurates Walt Disney Concert Hall and 2002's Josh Groban in Concert. That 2002 appearance became a number-one selling DVD as well as 2002's best-selling long-form music video.

Says David Horn, who directed both the 2002 and 2004 Groban TV concerts, "Now that Josh has become a premier recording and touring artist, we are tracing his artistic development. This live concert performance truly captures his maturity - even at age 23 - as a live performer."

Groban burst onto the music scene at the age of 19 with the stunning success of his self-titled debut album, which sold more than four million copies. He has recently appeared in a critically acclaimed series of sold-out concerts across the country.

Josh Groban Live at The Greek is a co-production of Thirteen/WNET New York and Reprise Records. It is executive produced by director David Horn and John Beug, and was recorded at The Greek Theatre September 10 and 11.
